The Batchewana First Nation of Ojibway engaged IDEA to design a new Health Station on the Rankin Reserve. This 15,000 Sq Ft facility provides essential health care services to the community. It contains public health clinics as well as private physicians spaces.
The building is seen as an important addition to the community because its architecture incorporates the long-lost building type tradition of the Longhouse known to the Ojibway people for community gathering, health, and wellbeing. Materials such as copper, cedar, and natural stone were used because of their cultural significance.
This project was the recipient of a prestigious Ontario Woodworks Award.
